Duz fastener bonnet question- help

Posting for a friend...They didn't put retention clips on the dzus fasteners on the bonnet of the TR3A. My questions about them are as follows. The spring does it go on before or after the washer.
The washer is curved - dos it go curve down or up? photos would be great...

Here's a pic of mine, HTH. Is there supposed to be a spring in there?
Lack thereof might explain the occasional rattle....

The original "clips" are just a washer (alloy?)that gets pushed on and engages into the slot in the Dzus fastener. Almost impossible to remove intact and use again. I used e-clips (I forget what size off hand) to secure the fasteners.

As noted, no springs originally. When the button is locked, only the washer could potentially rattle, but the whole thing can rattle if the engine is running with the bonnet up. The rattle got annoying, so I temporarily wrapped a rubber band into the gap between the retaining washer and bonnet.

On my previous TR3A, the bonnet Dzus buttons had been replaced with the slightly longer buttons from the side curtains, with the spring above the bonnet. Actually worked quite well, and not at all apparent that it was a modification.
I may go back to that, since it also appears that one of the stock buttons on my TR3 is really too short to reach into the socket (making it extremely tight no matter how things are adjusted).
