TR6 drilling into tr6 intake manifold

1973 TR6 - I have replaced my stroms with Mikuni carbs. The trottle linkage opens opposite of the strombergs. So I installed a cable similar to Rat-co design. BTW Paul - Brosky - Thanks again for your pics - helped me lots! But here is the question is there a port within the intake between the two carbs that would prevent me from drilling into it? I want to drill a hole to mount a bracket to hold the cable - right now I used a u bolt attaching the bracket to the manifold - works but is ugly. Pics here:

If you plan on drilling into the intake manifold at the point where your clamp and stand-off are located you will be putting a hole which would leak vacuum if not well sealed, also a through bolt would plug up the vaccum that goes to the brake booster etc. That crossover is intended to equalize the vacuum to provide a constant source.
I certainly wouldn't drill into it.

Any idea the size of the port in the crossover? May just need to heliarc a bracket on that crossover instead.

A good idea...

Make sure you give us an update on how the car runs with the Mikuni's. I ran into a guy at a show last year who had them on his TR6 and loved them. Once he got them all set up, he never had to touch them again.

I agree with welding a bracket on to the manifold. I wouldn't drill a hole though.

I had a similar problem, this is what I did, you may not be able to utilize the exact same method, but it might give you another idea:

I used the Ratco linkage plus two brackets from a Rover 2000 to attach the throttle return springs to. They look like this and attach to the intake manifold where the carbs are bolted on:

Here's how the whole thing fit together. click HERE for a full much bigger pic:

The Mikuni's idle very smoothly - the exhaust smell is much less "rich" and the response is quick. I have not yet gone out for a high speed ride pushing 4th gear. But in 2nd to 3rd gear - the power is stunning compared to the strombergs. I got my kit for the mikuni's from Vintage Auto. They specialize in Volvo's and sell the mikuni kit for volvo su replacements. The cost to me for the kit was 750 - that included the K&N filters too. The Mikunis have a mount that uses only 2 of the 4 intake studs. I had to remove the other 2 on each port - as they touched the back of the carb. I also had to ream out one of the mount bracket holes on each of the adapters to fit. I had considered mounting a rail between the upper and inner intake studs for the trottle mounting bracket. May still fiddle with that (very little space though) If I get a shorter stud to use on the intake - it may work.
