Disc to wire wheel conversion

Hi guys,

I've recently bought a BN6 fitted with original disc wheels,
and was wondering how difficult it is to convert to wire wheels - I know I could fit Minilite-style wheels as a direct replacement, but as I'm a sucker for punishment I'd like to get an idea of what's involved in the conversion to wires, as I prefer the look- any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum,
I can recommend that you call the fine folks at Hendrix wire wheel and ask them what they have available that will fit your car. They are very knowledgeable and if they say that they have something that will fit your car, it will fit your car. I have a BJ8 so I cannot recommend anything specific for you. If you look at their website and click on wheels, it appears that you have more than one choice. Here is their website;
https://www.hendrixwirewheel.com/
... I do have one recommendation/warning... Do not buy any Dunlap CHROMED spoke wire wheels or you will be sorry ! ...

Thanks Ed,

I should have clarified that I'm after a knockoff wire wheel conversion, not the bolt ons. Appreciate your comments though /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thankyousign.gif

I'll let others that have a car like yours comment on exactly the best way to go. But I still think the Hendirx would be the best folks to call for advice, ( other than members of this forum ).

Let's see if I can remember:
Rears - W/W brake drums, splined hub, then wheels and spinners
Front - Splined hub, bearings, seals, then wheels and spinners

BN6:

It's going to cost you plenty to convert to wires on that car. Then you will have the pleasure of scuttle shake and wheel maintenance like most Healey owners.

Personally, I find the rare disk wheel Healey's like yours very attractive and special. I have replaced enough snapped spokes and potato chip wheels on my Healey to cool my enthusiasm for wire wheels. I just love when the grease from the hub leaks out onto the spokes. Sure is fun to get those wire wheels balanced. Forget tubeless tires as well. When those flimsy splines slip, break out the wallet, you'll need new wheels and hubs soon...

A couple weeks ago LuckyLuke had a post that stated that he wanted to convert his wirewheels on his BN7 to Disc wheels. Maybe you and Luke could do some tradeing? Br2

The BN7 would be giving up disc brakes; not a bad swap for the BN6 owner...

I did this conversion on my BN4. Main reason is the car did not come with any wheels and I like the spoke look. You have to buy new hubs and drums for the front. Note that I drove the car for 4000 with this conversion and then got jeleous of the 3000 front disk brakes, so I then converted to disk. Much better stopping power. There are two kits available. AH spares and Cape International. Both are supposed to come with everything you need. The kit I bought needed two washers. The only thing you don't get is instructions, so the first wheel you work on takes a while. The second is easy. The conversion did not have a dust shield but I did not view that as essential for low mileage cars.

I still have my old drums and hubs with 4000 miles on them.
