Dimensions needed for BJ*

I am replacing both B posts and sills (along with the all floor panels). The A posts are fine. I now have the inner quarter panel clamped to the rear wheel arch and sills, the rear shroud clamped on, the fender attached and the shut panel clamped to the fender. I have positioned the shut panels so the rear door gaps are about 3/16". I need a dimension between the rear fenders so I can weld the inner quarter panel to the sills and inner fender arch. As it is now there is about 1/2" movement side to side possible between both B posts sections. Also, when painting a two tone paint, did they origionally also paint the inside of the doors and fenders or just paint to the edge or the doors and fenders.
Thanks for your help and have a good new year!

The inside of the doors and wings were the main body color.

I do not understand what dimension it is that you want.

The bottom of the "B" pillars should be dictated by the position of the the sills and rear inner wings while the top should mate to the rear inner wing/rear shroud.

A photo might help to visualize your problem.

James,
I understand about the bottom of the B pillars, that dimension is fixed but it is the top that is in question. Without everyting welded together, just clamped together, there is approximately 1/4" of movement side to side of each rear quarter panel/inner wings. I need a measurement so I can weld everyting solid. A measurement of the total distance between both rear wings say at the top of the wings from center lines of the stainless fender beads would be good. Thanks for your reply and have a good day!

John, my BJ7 measures about 50 15/16" from centerlines of the fender beads at the top of the wings (the highest part of the wing which I eyeball to line up vertically with the centerline of the rear axle). I also tried to measure the centerlines of the bead at the door opening (front start point of the rear wing beading) and came up with 51 1/8". However, this measurement was less accurate because the shroud/structure gets in the way. Hopefully we can get a few more to take measurements to see if there is a concensus.

Cheers,
John

John,
Thanks for your help. I have been able to check two other local cars yesterday and they were 51 1/16" and 51 1/8". My car appears to be 51 1/2". I have no idea what the tolerance should be but I don't know that I have a choice either. Thanks again and have a good day!

Hello John, in answer to; "Also, when painting a two tone paint, did they origionally also paint the inside of the doors and fenders or just paint to the edge or the doors and fenders." It's correct to say they are painted main body color, however, the cove color wraps around the door and fenders about a 1/4 inch, and also extends into the sills even more so that when the trim is installed the cove color is apparent.

Johnny,
So when you open the door you should see cove color up to the trim on the B pillar and on the rocker panel. Should the edge of the door(at the door latch is location) have body color with just 1/4" of cove color showing? Thanks for your help and have a good day!
