TR2/3/3A Cut away TR3

Went to look at some Craig's list parts yesterday and met a very interesting gearhead in Arlington, TX. He has a complete cut-away chasis for a TR3. By that, I mean he took the time to cut a hole in every part on the chasis...engine, gearbox, brakes, steering. And every subassembly too...like coil, distrib, oil filter...

Very interesting and very impressive that he took that amount of time to do it. He says he used to take it to the contests, and half the people would complain he took a car that wasn't ready to show yet. Guess not!

I would have taken pictures, but it was sleeting and I didn't want him to go to the trouble to uncover it in the cold. I may have to go back, though!

Interesting!

Did you recruit him for the forum?

So what do you mean John? It looks like one of those clear plastic models of the human body. We need to trade Craig’s lists. We hardly ever have tr3 parts way up north of you.

John-

Can't remember his name, but I met him as well - interesting guy. It wasn't a hatchet job either - very nice and clean. Hated to see his work under a tarp in the backyard, it would be a good club thing to have if someone could store it and clean it up for a show.

It truly needs to go to a Triumph club somewhere. Like Randy says, it was a real act of love and done just like you see in museums...but is slowly wasting away in the back corner of his yard. Just a weekend with a brush and some paint would make a real display piece. The only part without a display window is the differential...but everything else has an opening, and it still turns and operates.

If anyone knows of a club/museum or such, I'd be happy to do the footwork here in Fort Worth...

I did this a few years ago with one small part. I called it 'The Visible Distributor':

Interesting to watch in action -- I can imagine what the car you describe would reveal.

That was my inspiration - The Visible Man, The Visible Woman and, of course, the somewhat disturbing:
