Correct sparkplugs and cap

My mechanic says the correct sparkplugs for a BJ8 are Champion N12YC.

When installing these, he replaced my right angle sparkplug caps with straight ones, because he said the angle ones that were on my car, did not fit the tip of these sparkplugs.

There seems to be a variety of sparkplug caps. Straight, angled, some printed Lucas or Champion.

I am planning on installing a GPS unit that also will also play MP3.

What if the car has a radio? Or in my situation, an aftermarket GPS/MP3 player. Does it make a difference?

Curious, as to what sparkplug caps would be "correct" for my car if I had a radio or no radio. Straight, angled, plain or writing on the cap. ?

Cheers,Roger

Hi Keoke,
Correct...what came on the car when new?
If it did not have a radio.
Straight cap, right angle cap, any writing on the cap?
If it did have a radio. Same question. Roger

OK Roge, They were angled suppresor caps Marked Champion. Some were not logoed at all and simply stated "Made in England". But the ones available now as replacements do not seem to be of the original quality and cause more problems than the original look is worth.---Keoke

Never had straight caps? Boy, it's hard to keep my car looking orginal. My car had angle caps. When my new mechanic replaced the sparkplugs, he replaces with straight caps. What's up with that? Roger

I am not sure whats up wid dat. OH! maybe Mechanic just be too NEW /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif However, I do know that some plugs do not have the familiar removable caps on them exposing the threads which the better spark plug connector's lock on to. Consequently, the plugs you have may fall into this category ? The original "Made in England" connectors I have fit the top of the plug and do not require removing the threaded caps. OTOH, the period champions I have will lock on the threaded part only.---Fwiw---Keoke

Roger,
I would not worry about electrical noise ahead of time. Your GPS unit uses very high frequencies and should not be bothered by anything from your car. As far as the audio goes, wait to see if you have any problem at all. If you have any audio problem, your particular symptoms would suggest a possible correction. As an example, I have a random " poping " noise in my audio that is probably related to the operation of the voltage regulator. I have not tried to fix it yet, but what I will do to fix it will have nothing to do with ignition wires and spark plugs.
