Clutch slave adjustment

I just installed a new clutch slave but have no idea about adjusting the push rod. For one thing I'm not sure about how far the rod should move when I press the clutch pedal. It doesn't seem to move very far and I wonder if I need to do more bleeding. I have a new 5-speed transmission and I don't know what to look for in adjusting the length of the slave rod. I don't want to create a problem by making it too long but I don't know how to tell if it is long enough. I would very much appreciate any suggestions.

hmm, I just had to bleed my clutch system, and I didn't think there were any adjustments on the clutch slave cylinder.

it sounds like you still have air in your system.

when I was bleeding my system, I kept pumping air back into the system by not making sure the reservoir was full of brake fluid. could this be happening to you? I would reach the bottom of the reservoir with only 5 or 6 pumps, it doesn't hold much.

i would try again to bleed your system, pump 2 or 3 times, then fill the reservoir again, and repeat until you are getting no bubbles out of the bleeder screw.

i purchased one of those speed bleeders, and it really made the job easy, no need to get under the car, you can do it all from the passenger footwell, and you don't need help from anyone.

hint: don't use pliers to remove the rubber access hole plug in the passenger footwell, simply push it through

If you have the Nissan slave, it is adjustable. Set it up so you can get it in gear, drive the car, mash the clutch pedal at speed, if it slips, shorten the rod.

Easiest way I found to adjust the Datsun clutch slave is push it (the slave piston) all the way in as far as it will go and then adjust the nut on the slave link until there is approximately 1/8" freeplay in that link (so that it moves forward and back 1/8"). That should be all that there is to that part.

I have the push rod with the adjustable nut that came with the Datsun unit from Paul A. The car is not driveable as the engine is not complete and the car is undergoing a complete restoration. My initial concern is that the rod does not move far enough but I had no idea how far is normal.

They don't move very far on original transmissions--maybe 1/2 to 3/4 quarter of an inch travel.
