clutch engaging far up the pedal

My clutch starts engaging when the pedal is more than half way off the floor. As far as I know, there is no adjusting of this. Anybody know any different. I am use to the clutch now but everyone else that drives the car says it feels weird.

Jerry,
I'm not exactly sure. A worn clutch disc (thinner than normal) would cause the problem. If it IS disc wear you will eventually reach a point where the clutch starts slipping as the release bearing gets topped out.

There is a possibility that the flex hose is severely restricted internally & causing slow engagement. But I think you described the problem as everything acting normal except a higher engagement point. Has it always been this way?

No, but I had to replace the clutch about 2000 miles ago due to some break in problems with the master clutch cylinder installed wrong. It seems to work fine but expectations are to have the clutch engage a littler earlier than it does. Well, at least it runs and we had a great time on the Halloween rally yesterday. The designer had our paths cross at various times so you never knew who was lost. We found out later that the there were two different routes. Lots of stares at the cars and the people dressed up in costumes.

Which Healey club are you in? I hadn't heard of a Holloween rally in Sacto. Most of us in Northern Calif are in the Golden Gate.
Have you checked for a drop in the fluid? (sorry very obvious but you may have some air in the line if poorly blead. I had this problem on my XK140)

United British Car Club out of Sacramento. I met you on the Miata/Healey tour through the passes a few years ago. I had the dark blue/white 100-6 with the hardtop. All other clubs are invited to our rallys. The more the better.

The fluid level is fine. Never leaks. I will check for bubbles and re-bleed the system. Any other ideas?

Jerry,
If it didn't do it before you replaced the clutch & it DOES do it now the problem must be related to the last change. It's always a good idea to check the thickness of a new disc for about .330" with the Marcel spring compressed. There is something different between the new & the old. Probably nothing to worry about.

That wasn't me you met. There are three other Big Healeys up here. Mine is white. The others are champain, dark green and a lighter green.
If you changed the unit out, what kind of fluid did you use?
