Carburetor Floats

I recently had a pin hole in one of my three carborator floats. I tried to replace the floats through Moss Motors and found that their floats do not work. Are there any suggestion as to what product I can use to seal the floats and plug any leaks. Thanks

I was told to use solder...which I tried unsuccessfully, and ended up buying a new float, which works fine.

What seemed to be the problem with Moss's floats? Are your floats the type that attaches on a piviot or do they just float without being attached to anything. My floats are the the early model that are not attached. Just thought if you had the other type the new floats may be binding and not working properly. Also you may have to bend the tab that contols the needle and seat or better yet a Grose Jet.(think thats how they spell it) Moss has them.

Michael:

What do you mean they "don't work"?? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Just for edustaion valve, the floats come in two variations for our cars (S.U. Carbs, that is). Attached would be where the float is actually attached to the pivot point. The there is the floating style. BUT, those are actually "attached" the the RESTRICTING arm which still has to be clearenced per Shop Manual.

Lemme know please.

Ed

Ed,

The float fills with gas over time and sinks. I simply need to fill the hole. I have crazy glue on it as a temp fix which seems to be holding OK.

The Moss floats didn't work as there is no restricting arm. Rather than an arm there is an integrated plastic stop for the valves.

I have the Grose Jets but the floats that I purchased from Moss were not the original style with the restricting arm. Rather it was an integrated plastic stop which didn't allow the float to truely float.

HI Where is the hole and are the floats made of brass--Keoke

The floats that I have are a polymer or plastic float with a brass restricting arm. The hole is located in the seam from the top of the float to the bowl.

OK Michael, for those it is best to find the correct new replacement types.---Keoke
