Carb Oil & Stalling Issues ....

Hi All --

Filled up carbs last year and forgot what I used. Believe it's Marvel's Mystery Oil. Any recommendations??

Problem: Car "sticks" at high idle (2500RPM) and have to "goose" it to come back down to ~ 1000RPM at a light OR simply stalls (keeps going down from 1000 to 700 - 500 - 400 then it cuts out). Starts quite nicely / rapidly after that. This typically happens after the car is fully warmed up (30 min of driving).

Plan of Action: A) Look @ Carbs (I think the front doesn't move up / down as it should). Suspect that needle could be bent (probably my fault when I rebuilt 2 years ago). B) Double check throttle adjustment (pedal cable) and make sure it moves as freely as it should - I think this is probably somehow someway sticking inside of the sheathing). C) Adjust idle after car has warmed up for 30 minutes of so.

Plugs are black & are running rich (part C should fix this properly).

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Tx-

Start with a new throttle cable and go from there. My current cable is a bicycle brake cable and it has performed far better and lasted far,far longer than ANY BMC throttle cable that I have ever had. Also cost far less too!!

Ain't that the truth! All I use for cable is a bicycle one. Learned years ago a snapped throttle cable can put yer heart in yer throat pretty quick and the ones from "the usual suspects" seem to break VERY quickly. Bike brake cables with a teflon liner are GREAT.

Ditto on the bike cables

Also, the pistons and air chambers can become matched after awhile. If you mixed the piston/chambers during your rebuild then that could cause some drag/sticking. It is highly unlikely, but certainly a possibility. And of course, cleanliness in the air chambers is of utmost importance. Any debris is friction waiting to happen.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gifMake sure it has the Teflon liner & use TriFlo or some other Teflon spray as a lubricant.
