Well driving home on friday the car mysteriuosly started to run on 3 or 2 cylinders, coughing and spueetring, then regaining power and running fine. I got home and got busy with basement renos, and forgot about it. Went out yesterday to start the car to go to work and she would only run on 2 cylinders. It was dark raining and cold. My first fall with Sparky, and Lucas. So I took the Jeep. Got home yeterday and went trouble shooting, checked the spark , ok on all four, but when I pulled 1 and 2 wires off, no change to the engine, pulled off 3 or 4 and revs dropped way down. HMM must be in the fuel then I say to myself. Go take of the airfilter from the front carb. I lift the plunger with a screwdriver and no change. HHMMM. I lft the plunger again, but look into the crab throat, and the needle did not rise??!!. HMMM Took off the bell a,d pulled the plunger, the needle stayed in the jet. ??? HMMm Not stuck, lifted freely, so I undid the mounting screw, pulled out the retainer spring, reseated the needle, reinstalled everything,,, and TADAA!! The darn thing runs fine. Took me 10 minutes. Now, is this sort of thing common, should I constant;y check the needles. Why would this happen. The spring holds the needle very tight after I reinstalled it.
