Cam Grinding

I've torn apart my TR3 engine, and am sending the cam of to Ken Gillanders at British frame & Engine. He is going to re-grind the cam for more duration etc. I opted for the 282 deg cam.

My question is...How do they do that?

Hi Art,

My understanding is that any regrind to increase lift or duration involves making the "base circle" smaller. That's how you get "more" metal in the lobe.

There are other possibilities, like building the lobes up with welding and then grinding back down; but in general they just grind the base circle smaller to get more lift/duration.
