i am receiving my first jaguar this weekend, a 1998 XJR. what should i have serviced first? are there any history of issues with these models?

are there any aftermarket suppliers of performance parts?

thanks,

I would just take it to a reputabl;e Jag dealer and have them check it over. They generally have a checklist of about 120 things they look and and then can give you a full report on the cars condition.

Welcome to the forum by the way!

I have owned a few Jags and the first thing I would do is get an good workshop manual and owners manual. Learn as much as possible about the car and then take it to a good dealer as suggested. Then you will be able to talk inteligently about service to the vehicle.
Congradulations on owning a Jag.

the xjr is an excellent car. built very well, and dependable if you do the proper maintenance. you do want to check the brake system(rotors/calipers)
as they are quite expensive to repair. they are pretty much the things that show some wear and problems. make sure you get a maintenance/repair history with the car or walk away. i know its hard but you will save alot of grief down the road. other than that the car is a rocket and is sure to put a smile on your face. you will use excuses to get out of the house just to drive.
your spouse/significant other will feel neglected.
the car is very satisfying. trust me.

i forgot to mention, roger bywater of AJ6 engineering in the uk might have some performance parts available for the newer jags. he does amazing things for performance in the series 3 xj's and xjs's. although the recent xjr's are just fine the way they are. just get some real good tires and i mean GOOD, (dont wimp out!)(dunlop/michelin/kumho) (50/60 series and anything above 215) that stick to the road as well as drilled and slotted rotors. it will make the car almost performance illegal. nothing like it around. a genuine 0-60 rocket in the high 3's.

Welcome,
1st: Kiss your family goodbye; you now have a new mistress
2nd: Open an equity line of credit
3rd: Brace yourself for the envious stares of others
4th: Prepare for renewed interest (new interest?) from members of the opposite sex
5th: Do your darndest to keep your ego in check.
You are now a Jag owner!
