Bugeye license plate light plinth

So what do most people do since these little buggers are so hard to find? I have a later unit with the ridge down the middle but I'm going over the car and doing some repainting and wondered if people care enough about this detail on a car that is just a driver?

If anybody has a rough one I'd love to make a fiberglass mold or even some way to hammer one on a buck.

I'll have to admit that I created one that if very close to the original. My BE did not have the correct license plate light. I bought one with the later plinth on ebay. Just before painting the car I ground the ridge down with my dremel. It came out pretty good, but a person in the know can tell it is not the early plinth if he looks closely. This is a suggestion that will get you by until you find the correct plinth.
Happy New Year,
Charlie

I had thought about that same thing Coastalman. My goal is to fill some holes before painting. None of the holes in the car match up with the plinth I have and I'm hoping Whitephrog has just what I need.

My car is a '59 with a Weber carbed 1275, front discs, wire wheels and its getting a 5sp right now as well so "Original" is getting even further away. It's just that certain details will bother me, ya know?

IMHO the look details are much more important than the run details. I like your conversion, Donald Healey would also.

I used an after market LED mini blister fixture from the hot rod shop. Only sticks out about a half inch and you can barely notice that it's there. I didn't like how big the original fixture was, stuck out like a sore thumb.

We all have our standards, and they're all as different as we are.
Don't let your "noncompliance" with someone else's standards keep you from enjoying YOUR car.

Totally agree Pythias, the car had 'compliance' thrown out the window before it was even built. From the beginning it was all about making a BE drivable in just about any situation, it even has a Painless harness to keep Prince Lucas from interupting the fun. I've even flirted with throwing a Megasquirt on the car, I have an extra one in my tool box that keeps catching my eye. If I didn't have the DCOE it would be EFI in no time at all.

I think jlaird hit the nail on the head. Even though its painted a non stock color, the little details really finish the project for me. I get torn between my two influences of racing and concours cars. I go from "Chrome won't get you home" to "That's not correct being chrome"

...it still might get the EFI in this refresh...lol
