Is the metal gearshift cover for the Bugeye available from anywhere? I did not see it from Moss or AH Spares. Jim

Got to get one from a parts car or eBay even.

NLA pretty sure

Parts cars are nice to have.

Jim,

I think you are doing a 5 speed conversion, correct? Often the metal can does not work well with the lower pivot point on the Datsun 5 speed. They work better with the later gaiter style setup, but those metal rings are NLA also... until now.

I have new gaiter rings that are CNC aluminum. The gaiters are available from Moss or VB. Available with factory position holes or without. These are very nice quality.

Let me know if you are interested.

Gerard - I'm trying to finish up a Datsun 5 speed conversion (currently struggling to get the after-market clutch slave cylinder/rebuilt master/system to bleed): with your ring, do I need to do the cut & weld thing with the Datsun shift lever? Our BE is pretty much stock, but using your ring & a gaiter with a shortened (ie not cut/spliced/welded) Datsun shift lever would make life easier. And NO! I won't be tossing or selling the original BE metal enclosure!
Thanks,
Doug

the cutting and welding of the shift lever is to make it closer to working with the stock shifter "can". What Gerard offers is a modern upgrade/repro of the no longer available gaiter ring that came with the later 1500 cars. An elegant solution to the relocation of the shift stick...

As an aside, Gerard is one the "good guys", ala PPP Hap, Jeff, Paul A. Quality, reliability, S.O.P.

Hi Doug,

No, you would not need to cut and weld your shifter with this solution. Your shifter will be situated more to the left without the offset weld, but it will be less noticeable once you have the gaiter in place. There should be no ill effects by not having the offset.

Bill, thank you very much for your generous comments!

I appreciate your advice Gerard. Since I am doing the Rivergate 210 conversion, I will probably forget about the shift cover, which I don't have anyway, and go with your solution. How would I order your part (price, etc.?) Jim
