Breather Lines

Over the weekend we ran the lifter cover breather line into the valve cover breather line with a Y fitting then ran a single hose to the canister. We put caps on the Carburator where the hoses went to before. Has anyone tried this on thier engine. We thought that some oil was being sucked out of the breather hose with the intake vacum.

Tony, we just pulled our engine in the 71 to install a OD trans. When we took off the manifold there was some fuel/oil mixture in the intake port of the head and the intake manifold port. The only way I see oil able to get to that spot is through the breather system. Whats your take?

Is the filter in the front engine side cover stopped up?

You're talking about SU carbs, right? Are you sure it was engine oil and not damper oil?

chris - my damper oil is auto transmission fluid...but, I agree with your question....sounds to me like the "PCV" setup isn't working properly

I use Marvs Mystery oil in the Carb (red), this was motor oil.
Cleaned the lifter cover last June during the rebuild.

How'd you "clean" it?

It had stuff like a coarse metal brillo pad so I think it was coated with sledge. I cleaned it by soaking it in paint thinner and blowing it out, JDW told us to do it.

Yep, that or burn it....now, why'd you think it was through the breather system...could it be a vacuum leak through the head?

It had a payen head gasket, the block and head was machined during the rebuild and compression was good. I don't see where a vacum leak could be from. All smog equipment has been removed. The only vacum line on the manifold is the advance.
