Brake Shoes

Is there a supplier out there that sells brake shoes for a BN1 ? I have new linings and rivets.

I also need a suplier for the small "piston" with the angled end that goes against the rear brake adjuster.

A point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sopp

You will likely have to get used parts.

Here are a couple of shops that I have gotten used brake shoes & parts from.

Healey Surgeons
1-301-270-8811

British Car Specialists
1-209-948-8767

Other folks may have more suggestions.

Make sure that your installed linings are thin enough to allow getting the drums on. A lot of Healey shoes require a maximum 0.190" lining thickness. Some linings are thicker.

It would be a very good idea to have a brake shop arc/grind the lined shoes to to your exact drums inside diameter/radius. This insures full lining to drum contact without extensive break in. I personally would have the shop install the linings, measure the drum ID, & grind the correct shoe contour.

For the ultimate in drum braking I would send all shoes to Porterfield to have R4S compound linings installed.

Porterfield Enterprises

Costa Mesa, CA 92627

Far more effective braking with less pedal pressure than the garden variety linings.

Dave,
I will check with the suppliers that you listed to see if they have any used shoes. They might even have the adjuster part.
Thanks a bunch.

zblu,
They are the early narrow shoes. Not sure of the bore size, but they would also be the early style. Chassis #220090.

I guess if anyone out in cyberland has the parts I need, I would be happy to buy from an individual as well as a business.

Also, does anyone have a good picture of the brake and clutch pedal pivot assembly for a BN1 ? I think my first bodyman screwed up when he welded the outer support bracket back on. I don't have enough room between bracket and frame to put the brake pedal pivot in. I need to know what a propper assembly look like so that I make the propper changes.
