Bonnet won't stay closed

If you remember, I had a fairly decent dent in my bonnet. We'll a local club member just happened to have a '67 Aluminum Bonnet painted BRG in decent shape. Problem is I cannot get it to latch. My other was fine. All I did was move the bonnet pin up because the bonnet stuck up when it was close. I adjust the pin to get it to sit lower and meet the fenders at the edges.

Since that was the only thing I did besides clean it and it won't close, I moved it back. Still NG.

I've looked at it carefully and cannot figure out why.

Maybe the pin is sitting slightly too far forward, backward or to one side? TThe replacment hood may not fit exactly like the old one did. Try throwing it out of alignment in different directions and see how the latch responds. Also, make sure the latch pin is not bent at all or sitting crooked.

I've always struggled with the latch on my '65 but that's what I would try first.

did you try moving the latch forward.

If you have a digital camera, try using the timer. Lay it under the latch, press the "shutter" button, then quickly close the bonnet to see what direction you need.

Before you move the latch, loosen the bolts at the hinges & see if it aligns with the latch when its free to move around in the rear...then, check your hood rubber bumpers on the edges of both fenders to see if they're holding the hood "proud"...lastly, tighten the bolts at the hinges...

On the hood itself, see if you can turn the latching mechanism out a bit so there's more to reach down inside the catch.

Loosen the bolts that hold the lower part of the latch in place. There's plenty of room to shift it around until it works properly!
