Boat Polish on a car?

I noticed alot of boat polishes available that claim to be able to remove bad oxidization, they look pretty convincing. BUT I know nothing about boats, so my question is whats the difference between a boat polish and an automotive polish? Do you think a boat polish will harm my paint?

I have a can of hard boat polish/wax... and it appears to just be regular hard carnuba wax. I don't see where it would hurt your regular paint.

That said... Mequires Gold class - 3 stage cleaner polish wax is my all time favorite car wax. That's after several years of trying different things... Blue Coral, Mothers, Meguires NXT (nice too by itself on a dark colored car), Wet Look, Liquid Gold, and some of the brush on acrylic crap.

If you want to remove oxidation, try clay bar followed by polish. I use Meguiar's white clay and Speed Glaze, followed by NXT wax. Until recently I was using Gold Class wax with good results also.

I know how to remove oxidization, and have actually developed a very labor intenstive process, that will make most paint look like new...BUT I am always looking for something to make the process easier....especially cars that have recieved a cheap clear coat finish at some time(like my TR6) those are difficult, cuz you don't want to get through the clear.

Kenny, If it is Hard carnuba wax then it is not a polish. Some companies package what is known as a cleaner wax consisting of a combination of the two. While carnuba boat Wax may contain a higher percentage of carnuba it will not hurt an automobile finish just make you work harder to apply it and subsequent removal.---Fwiw--Keoke
