First, you absolutely should not hear any liquid in the vacuum chamber (I'm assuming you have the servo out and you're shaking it). This means the 'gland seal' around the vacuum piston shaft has failed and is allowing brake fluid into the chamber (of course, the level of BF in the reservoir will drop rapidly).

Second, these servos can be rebuilt. You can do it yourself or send it to a servo rebuilder. I did mine, and it's been fine for 40K miles or so. It's basically a slave and a master cylinder combined, and some simple valving to control air/vacuum flow. Rebuild kits are available, and the usual suspects can sleeve the cylinders. If you'd rather install a new aftermarket one the one on eBay is a commonly-used retrofit and should work fine.

Get your original unit reconditioned. Then it will bolt straight back on.
The aftermarket units require a different bracket for fitment and can interfere with the oil filter.

I used Power Brake Exchange to rebuild mine. They have reproduced some of the parts that you can no longer get. Turn around was quick and I think labout $300.00. Came back looking good. I believe they cleaned the airfilter but I had a new one so I installed that instead.

Leo,

I second Patrick's advise. Power brake exchange is the way to go. I did my own rebuild and the kits aren't cheap, and the bores are very small, and aluminum. I went through 4 old units to find one with a good set of bores. I also hear that 50% or better of home rebuilds don't take. Then there is the fitment issue too, a new one will require fabrication.

Best of luck.

I'll second Leo's advise. I rebuilt mine during the cars restoration. It didn't work. By passed it and drove the car for about a year without one. Bought a aftermarket one, fabbed a bracket to install. I can't tell that much difference in the braking. Do feel better knowing I have one installed on the car.
