Wedge Best way to remove '80 TR7 starter?

I have not driven the car in over a year due to a starter problem. When I turn the key the solenoid engages but the starter motor won't spin. Previously if I hit the key 5 or ten times it would eventually turn over but now, nothing. I assume contacts in the solenoid are dirty. What is best way to remove the starter? From the top or from below? What do I have to disconnect for access?

Underneath. You have to take the drop part of the exhauset system and a brace to the left side of tranny to get decent access to it. At least on my '76 and '81 that was my experience. Give yourself a couple hours. The flange between the exhaust manifold and collector pipe has a difficlult bolt because of the angle and where it is. I used a couple of extensions on my impact wrench so because there is no room near the bolt in the engine bay.

BTW, my '76 just started doing it again. this time I think I'll drob the engine out and replace it with one of my v8's.

Before you do that and I don't know if it is too late, but a couple of love taps on the starter housing with a hammer sometimes frees them up. Starters for some reason rust from the inside out. Possibly because I think they only paint the outside of the case.
