Best pace to sell Sprite parts?

Hi.

I have a bunch of Sprite parts that I have had a hard time selling. I have some sheet metal, some mechanicals, some electricals, some wheels, some hydraulics... you know the drill. Anyway, I tried the local Healey news letter and only got one call. I posted a list on here some years ago and never got a reply. This is all stuff collected as a result of many years of bugeye ownership, but as you know, a lot of it will fit later cars too. Plus, I moded the bugeye, so some of the stuff I have is for later Spridgets. Some is new like a floor (not sure what side), rocker panel, repair patches for the rear bugeye fenders, etc. Some is rare, like the generator tach drive. Any ideas on a good place to sell this stuff? I'd really prefer local pick up as some of the parts (new floor pan, bugeye wheels, tranny, etc) are big, so I'm trying to avoid e-bay.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Bill

Have you tried Craigslist? I have bought and sold parts on that before. If the part is easily shipable, I think you might get higher prices on Ebay due to larger audience.

I didn't think Craigs List would be a good forum for someting as specialized as Sprite parts. While I agree that e-bay might be better, I don't want to get involved in paying for an auction of one part at a time and the chance the winning bidder backs out. Plus, lots of the stuff would be difficult to ship.

Well, the best place by far is eBay. It'll cost you something, there will be hassles, but nothing like the other options.

Another option is the classifieds on BCF. They are badly underused; not sure why. They could be a great resource, though, if people would use them.

Craigslist might be OK. Amazing the stuff that shows up there. Since you're in a large metropolitan area, I'd think there would be someone interested in Sprite parts. In my experience, Craigslist is populated by flakes, and there are lots of scammers, so you take your chances. Still, I've sold some things there surprisingly easily.

Howdy Bill,

I`ve placed some classified ads here on the BCF & the resulting inquires were something "Less Than" one would expect! To me; Thats kind of strange cause one would think there would be a ton of folks here looking for parts. As it appears; There are a ton of folks who already have parts & simply don`t need them.

So; It always brought me back to ebay & "Sold" in nothing flat!

Craigslist I feel is not a good place for your listings but It does`nt cost anything so what the heck; You`ve got nothing to loose.

Your post right here just may bring you buyers! I`ve done that in the past & "Wa-La"; I`ve bought & sold quite a few items.

Best Wishes,

Russ

Generally, you'll get higher prices for individual items, but of course more hassle with shipping. Some people overdo this, however, by listing every little two-dollar piece of hardware separately. Another common error is to list two items separately that are logically a pair. Then, people won't bid on either, because they need to be sure of getting both.

I'm mostly a buyer, not a seller, on ebay. However, my few ebay sales have always gone smoothly. People criticize it, but on the whole it's been OK by me.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll start with the generator tach drive. Those seem to be hard to find. Do you think I should pair that with a tach drive generator, or sell those two seperately?

You might be surprise by Craigslist. I've had people from all over the country contact me when I've listed stuff. I'd give it a go especially since it is free.

I'd sell the tach drive separately..you can always put "see my other auctions for a tach drive generator". Those drives command a premium by themselves. The generator will push the cost of shipping up.

Put a quick list up here. Or send me an email. I'm always looking for stuff for my Bugeye. And I do need a Tach Drive! And sheet metal!
