i'm running a 289 ford with an optima battery. i want to get a custom cable (the long one) heavier. does anyone know how long that cable is, so i don't have to pull the old one
out. i have a 61 BT7. the stock cable gets hot and has some
chafed spots.

Gregg,

The one that I used to move my 66 Mustang GT Fastback battery to the trunk was 15 feet. It is available from several of the Mustang parts houses.

A big Healey is about 13 feet, bumper-2-bumper.

If you want/need a firm source and $$, I can probably find it for you. I DO Mustangs too.

Fordhealey: The last time I did that job was two years ago and I bought 10 feet of #6 welding cable from my local parts seller. I think I had a foot or two left over to make a ground cable from as well. AL Bradley

Greg--

You're going to have to take it out sooner or later, so why not do it first and go to any good boating store (BoatsUS or West Marine), buy the appropriate length of Ancor-brand or other marine-grade starting cable (tinned with heavy conductors and extra-strong jacket)along with the appropriate crimp-on terminals and heat-shrink insulation to make yours up.

this car is my daily driver. my only form of transportation.
if i pull the old cable to make a new one, that means i'm
out of transportation for the day. aside from the fact that it will be on jackstands in the parking lot all day. not cool.it turns an hour job into an all day one. i can get
the custom cable made if i know the length.i had planned to
use marine quality wire. thats what all my wireing and switches have been converted to, because of the salt air
in key west. it corrodes everything.

Make sure that your battery is as per original. Measure twice--cut once....
