Battery box "engineering"...

Both sides are ~long gone~ and the single 12V was held in place with "radio strapping" and a couple of Michigan license plates. GOR!

Now fabricating (the highbrow equivalent of MacGyverin' it?) a spiving aluminum base and hold-down scheme for the purpose. Should be a fine replacement for the original. Swapping the electron flow to a negative earth, the thought being I then have a choice of audio devices available. Thought about fully enclosing the battery in a liner, not sure it'd be beneficial other than as a dust/dirt/water barrier. Any opinions or experience with those liners from "the usual sources"? I did contain the Lotus Cortina battery in one years ago and it seemed to be a good deal. Kept the corrosion in the boot down after that.

That's what I used in the Cortina but it ain't gonna fit in this MGB. I either buy the one offered by Moss, VB, et al or make one from fiberglass. First I gotta make it so the thing doesn't just fall out the bottom though! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

battery box ought to be a good idea just to reduce contaminants from getting into that area. However, keep in mind you'll still want it to be ventilated in some way. Don't necesarily want hydrogen to build up in a closed environment like that and all... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Believe it or not, it's one of the "safety requirements" that officials look for at 'car audio' events.

I got the moss/vb box, (can't remember who I bought it from) and other than having to cut a couple of holes in it for the cables to go through I like it a lot

The Moss, VB battery boxes, have a rigid lip so it won't fall through(or at least thats what the catalogue says) I am yet to install the one I bought.

I have an old little battery box from the local marina (about $6) in my stock compartment that I had to slice the end a bit to get it to fit the angle, but it has worked well to protect the battery and insides for a couple of years now /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

I've never seen a need to put anything down inside the battery box except the battery itself...have repaired many that were rusted out bith like-type metal...have also never seen a battery "fall through" so long as it was the correct battery & all the necessary tie downs were used.
