Hi, I have a 1954 BN1 and checking it over for the spring. I had work done on the differential last fall and I noticed the axle breather bolt on the differential for the first time. It was not tight. I have looked through my manuals and can find nothing about the breather. Should it be tighten down completely, or loose? What is it's purpose? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

It should be clear to "vent" to the atmosphere. A build up of of pressure is the usual culprit for pushing lube past the seals, fouling the brakes and leaking at the pinion.
Naturally, some of the blame can be placed of old-hard seal lips too.
The vent should be tight enough so that it doesn't come adrift; no more, no less.
