Anything else to do now while she's like this?

I had to pull the radiator to put the re-cored one in, but man is the engine easy to access when she is like this.

Fan belt for sure, but are there other things I should be thinking about doing now?

(she's going to stay grungy for a bit, so I'll clean her up some but nothing is going to get overly shiny)

Put a wrench on everything you can't reach once the rad is back in, just to check for any looseness. Look things over while you can see into the crooks and grannies.

New water pump definitely!

Clean and paint that fan.
Geez, nobody taught you nuttin'?

Grungy, dirty thing like that drags horsepower just trying to turn through the air.
You've only got 13 to begin with, you don't want your fan taking 4, do you?

Like chrome air cleaners.....makes MORE horse's power, right?

DANGER....DANGER....DANGER Will Robinson.....I detect a LARGE herd of mightaswells headed in the direction of the above pictured automobile......

Be very careful! In April of 2007 I pulled the radiator from the Tunebug for a recore...

I hope to have him back on the road by April of 2010 after a new motor, disc brakes, clutch, front suspension, ...

Good time to put a timing pointer on top of the pulley.
Something like this.
Take the fan off completely and go electric!

I agree with most of the above. Remove the fan, pulleys, timing cover, chains and gears and water pump. change the chain and tensioner, change the front seal, clean and paint all the sheet metal and pulleys, change the water pump, hoses and thermostat. Look closely at the timing gears and ask if they need replacing. Before you start, gunk that thing down, scrub it good and hose it off.

Replace that fuel pressure "regulator" with a Holley unit!!!

Fix the hold down on that vacuum line..

Well heck, if you're doin' all that you mightaswell stuff in a hot camshaft while you have such clear access.

That depends.

Are you exceptionally good at compartmentalizing?
Can you make a list and stick to it, and not allow scope creep to take over?
Do you like driving, or would you rather be working on your car?
Do you have a large block of time (months or years) that you want your car to sit while you are doing "other things" to it?

I say fix what's wrong, leave the rest alone, button it up and drive it. But that's just me.

Don't make me tell you the story of the running MGC I once parked in the back yard and then had to sell the rusting hulk 20 years later.

I was going to "do a few other things" to it...

Bet he wished he didn't ask that question......

No freaking kidding - LOL.

I'm lousy about compartmentalized repairs actually... I probably shouldn't mention that I have a 1275 waiting in the garage.

at least a new bypass hose water pump-head, that's the bit that'll fail when it's least accessible. And replace that dog-walking-backwards-ugly fan with a nice yellow plastic one if you're not going to go electric. Works better and quieter.

Well, that eliminates about half the posts!
