I went on a club breakfast run today and a good friend showed me his TR3. When we looked under the bonnet I saw an alloy valve cover I've never seen before. I asked him about it and he was unsure of it's origin. Anybody have any information on this?

Raymond van Donk in the Netherlands has a nice powder blue 3A with that cover - and he attributes it as a vintage Cal Sales item.

Yes, that appears to be a CAL Sales, Inc. valve cover. This cover was first listed as an accessory for the Doretti on 31 August 1954 and the TR2 a week or so later. The dealer installed price at that time was $22.50. However, I don't think the 2 cover retaining nuts are CAL Sales items, but I'm not 100% sure. I think the originals were smaller.

I'll pass the information on to my friend. Next I think I will order one for $22.50. I was thinking it may have been a Triumph item because of the script, and the emblem.

I know that this thread goes back some 10 years but does anyone have additional historical information on these CAL alloy Triumph TR 2-3 valve covers? Years they were made? Only made by CAL Sales in the US? How many were made? I think I remember seeing either TRF or Moss offer newer runs perhaps in the 80's? Were they ever produced in GB as an optional item?

Thanks.

I've been looking for one of these for many years and have come close to buying one on several occasions but have always been a moment too late. The last two I've seen have sold for crazy money ($900 for one and another that I don't know the final cost but was on eBay for $2500 that recently sold). I want one, but not that badly ;-)

My TR2, purchaced in San Jose, Califoirnia in 1955 has that valve cover with those knobs. The oil filler cap is chrome/silver. I never new it was anything special, and I don’t know if it came with the car or was added later. It’s a great thick, flat, and solid cover. It may be the only car I’ve had without a hint of oil seepage from the valve cover and gasket. The car makes up for it with leaks in other places, though.

Stevenry, would like to see a photo of your TR2 vlave cover with the knobs and oil filler cap. Sounds like it is original from when you bought it!

Who will be bringing these valve covers to market in the next 30-60 days.
Had communications from him about a month ago
