Alloy Wheels

I am toying with putting alloy wheels on my BN1
there appear to be two types, one with the spline insert bolted from the front with aq chrome face and (8?) studs?, and one where the insert is attached from the rear, with nothing protruding through to the face of the wheel.
Which would be more in keeping with the period?
Both types are held in place on the hub with the spinners
Comments/thoughts/info invited

The ones from behind would be the better of those two (2) choices. However, the only period correct wheels would be the Dunlop alloys, as fitted to Editor Reid's car (secretly hoping that he posts, or links us to dozens of pictures...).

Another alternative, and something that *might've* been done in Southern California in period, would be to fit either a bolt-on variety or custom-made K/O version of a Halibrand magnesium replica wheel. I had considered going this route with my own car, but caved in on AC Cobra (15 x 6) wires at probably 1/3 the price.

Yes, I was hoping that Reid would post pictures of his, as they are currently available (besides the obviously modern picture quality).

But those are certainly the pattern I was suggesting, thanks for the link!

The pic I put up is of the 4 stud M type, your site appears to show the five stud D type as shown on the UK site I visited, about 280-290 lbs sterling each

Minilite wheels were very popular in Britain in the 1960s and 1970s and IMHO they are the only alloy wheel that can sensibly be fitted to a Healey unless you are of course a Nasty Boy (nothing wrong with them btw. The other exception being the Dunlop wheels as fitted to 100s that raced at Sebring and some record cars. They were I believe 16 inch alloys not 15 inch.

No works Healeys ran with minilites, they all used wire wheels mainly due to class/originality reasons. The sole exception was the last works Healey which was scheduled to run in the RAC Rally in a special class. However the event was cancelled due to an outbreak of foot and mouth disease in the UK.

Try these 'DUNLOP' Wheels

The 16" wheels run to about $450 each and can be selected for desired width

I shall be getting some next year.
