Hey everyone I'm new to the board but not to Austin Healys.

I've run into a bit of a problem, I have an all original excellent condition 64 BJ8 with the type 14 early calipers that are in need of a rebuild. Now from what I gather the rebuild kit for these are NLA and can only be had in certain circles. So I'm asking for the boards wealth of knowledge to point me in the right direction so I can get my baby back on the road for the top down weather. Thanks for any help, its greatly appreciated

I have a 64 ph 1 BJ8 and replaced the pistons with stainless ones about three years ago. At that time I was able to get the repair kits with the pistons from Moss, but I see the repair kit is listed as N/A now. Try Victoria British part # 7-641. Also British Car Specialists,209-948-8767. If your calipers are pitted, then they will need to be sleeved. My pistons were pitted, but not the calipers so mine were easily repaired with new pistons, but use stainless.
 
Last year when I purchased stainless steel pistons from John Farrell I asked if he could also get the rebuild kits including the rubber washer that is replaced when splitting the caliper. He was able to set me up at the time.

I just rebuilt a set of early calipers two days ago using NOS Girling kit # SP2504. I tried a repro kit some time back and as I recall the seals were fine but the dust boots were too small and would not stay in place while trying to install the piston. Dittos to using John Farrell for parts . He is one of the few people I trust without question.

WOW, talk about helpful, you guys rock thanks to everyone for your help. Being that mines is original I have very little Healy resto or parts knowlege. I feel certain I'll be able to get it back on the road shortly now. THANKS!
 
Wow I was only a few days late on seeing this thread develop and ordered SS pistons from Healey Surgeons for around $30 each. Would have been nice to save $20!.
