AH Disk Brake Calipers

Some time ago I purchased from a deceased vendor a box full of NOS miscellaneous parts. Included in that box is a "Girling" SP 7267/1 One Axle Set 483 Disk brake caliper rebuild kit. Inside is papers "K369 Service kit instructions" for a "M16 'AH' CALIPER". My question is, for which car this service kit is for? My AH BJ7 disk brakes have the number 14 on them but nowhere does it say what type of caliper it is. Does someone own an original Lucas parts list that might shed some light on this? Thanks to all for looking.

well, I still don't know what caliper's are on a MKII but i did find out that the "Caliper Service Kit" number for a AH MKIII ('65-'67) is SP2501. I also found in the box two smaller boxes marked "SP4018" and they seem to resemble a rear brake cylinder repair kit. Does anyone know for sure?

SP7267 is listed as fitting Saab 99,900 8/74-87. It is a 54mm caliper kit like the BJ8 so the piston seal may work but I doubt that the dust boot will fit. SP2501 is the correct part # for BJ8's but is NLA from Girling.

The brake calipers used on AH3000 were type 14 for the earlier models and Type 16 for the later ones.

gives an overview of which car got which caliper.

Girling made the type 16 in M and P variants. The P are imperial threads as used with Healeys while the M are metric and were used with some of the later TR6s.

I've had a quick look at Rimmer Bros (a Triumh specialist), and they say:

The repair kits and pistons for early calipers with imperial thread can be of two types and they are not interchangeable. The later type kit (part no. 519731) differs from the early kit (part no. 601960) in using a steel clip to retain the dust shield on the caliper body. For further reference please refer to illustrations A and B.
The calipers 307977 and 307976 can be replaced directly by either the later imperial threaded items or by the metric threaded ones if the appropriate brake pipe and caliper mounting bolts are used.

It sounds like you've got kits for the Type 16 calipers as fitted to the later BJ8s. But I can't tell any more than that....

Thanks Alan, looks like you nailed it. Now, do you know what SP4018 is for?
The deceased vendor was a Lucas parts vendor in the St Louis area. He was killed in his MGA, Wrapped it around a tree I heard. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Congratulations...You have a caliper kit (SP4018) for an Audi Fox 1972-1977. Need any more? 90LS,100LS....I gotem.

some parts fit a lot of different cars, had a 95 saab 900i, went to replace disc pads and for about 1/3rd price used the vw pads, same pad, different box!

Thanks Alan, you are a wealth of knowledge. Now, who owns an Audi Fox?
