Adjusting toe in on a Healey

Hey y'all,
Quick question - know how to adjust the toe in with the cross tube. But, since turning one way will widen the toe in and the other narrow it, which way do you turn it - both nuts being loose prior to turning it - to adjust the toe in where the front edge moves out to be more equal to the back edge ? Right now I have too big of a difference between front and back, about 1/2 inch wider track in the back versus the front where need about 1/8 per the works manual.
Thanks,
Mike

I can't remember.

But there is only one way to find out, and if you get it wrong first time, I'll guarantee that you get it right on the second attempt. :encouragement:

Thanks Bob and Steve ! I made up a toe in tool based on Steve's sometime ago and it does work well. Mine may not be quite as nice but gets the job done. And Bob, you're right, if I turn it the wrong way I will definitely know the correct way to do it the next time ! I will post the results here so someone else doesn't have to do it twice !!!
Regards,
Mike

Don't forget that to check the toe, you have to have the car on the ground and roll it forward a few feet before checking. I used SteveG's design to make his toe gauge. It worked great.

The manual recommends toe in to be 1/8 inch but I read somewhere that was suggesting with modern radial tyres it is better set to parallel?
Has anyone else heard this ?

Less is definitely better, but with a 0.0" toe setting, the car will wander, leaving you quite busy correcting the direction of travel.

The quantity of pivoting joints__the ball ends__need to stay "loaded" so that any play (slop), however minimal, is all stacked to one end.

I strive to set all my cars at 1/32" to 1/16" toe in; in other words, not less than 1/32" and not more than 1/16"
