Adding a backup fuel pump Anyone have pictures?

Hello everyone, I have a 67 BJ8 and before taking some long road trips, One of the things on my to do list is to add a backup fuel pump. My car is all original still retaining the postive ground system. It would be great to see pictures of the fuel line and mounting modifications required as well as any wiring involved. Also, Will i have to drain the fuel tank before disconnecting the fuel pipes? Can the fuel pumps be changed without taking the seat pan off? Any thoughts on what backup fuel pump to use on my postive ground Healey? Thanks Everyone!

Hey Drambuie,
If you belong to the AHCUSA, go to their website and look into their tech articles. They had one in a while back - maybe 2 years - and showed exactly how to install a back up fuel pump in line with your primary pump.
Regards,
Mike

Hi, Drambuie -

I have the photographs and sketches you need to install the backup fuel pump. I can't post pictures here, but if you will contact me directly I will provide them: sbyers@ec.rr.com

The article at the AHCUSA website is the one that I wrote. I also have some additional information about the installation.

Hello Andrea,

Thank you so much for all your very detailed pictures, The fifth link really helps because it shows all the fuel line routes... that is what i was looking for! You really have a nice looking setup.. Most helpful Andrea! Thank you so much for taking the time to post these great photos. I am sure other BCF members will also find your photos very useful as well, Michael Gurgone.

If you install a double ended SU pump, you don't need to do anything to your original fuel lines.
You will have to remove the single ended SU pump mounting bracket and custom make a new one for the double ended pump.
I used two MGB mounts with the rubber rings that go around the SU pump body. I made a pattern out of cardboard to get the mounting holes located in the correct positions and then cut the " base " of the mounting plate out of sheet metal and riveted the MGB mounts to the new plate. If you do it right, you don't need to change the location of the original fuel, hard lines.
