Was watching this auction end ('62 Midget). So much like mine.
Dealer added door handles or later?

ended at $4500 BTW, I think it's worth more, apparently so did the owner, didn't hit reserve

Somebody added something to the outer door. all indications are MK I Midget.

They look like "Speedwell" latches (add-ons). They do not look bad on the car.

Were those common already as add ons in '62? Just curious. External door handles, what will they come up with next? How exorbitant!

What will they come up with next? - I'm betting wind up windows. Trust me, they're here to stay.

They were available as dealer or self installed accessories. I have only seen a couple of cars with them and the last set I saw on ebay went for better than 100.00. Personally, I wouldn't want to be poking great holes in my doors, just to make it look like a MK2.

C'mon, who in their right mind would want to carry around all that weight and hardware, using up valuable cockpit space for what? To stay warm and dry, silly.

I do kinda wish I could just "turn a crank" and be warm and dry once in a while though......I'll get over it.

( not to brag) but fastest car in it's class in the MS,LA gulf coast region. Nothing has ever out pulled it. 10.3 to 1 from the factory and TONS of low end torque that comes in low and quick. Won 99% of races run. I came across this car by accident while looking for an Integra to build. I figured I'll builds this car and race it till I find what I want. This car made me into a believer. I scoffed at Hyundais before, not anymore.
I have three. :driving: :driving: :driving:

And they eat Hondas

you probably know there is sort of a family relationship right?

1500 Midget has a gearbox adapted from a Morris Marina

George Turnball, when he finished as Managing Director of the Austin Morris branch of British Leyland was given two Marina's - which he promptly took to Korea and reverse engineered the Hyundai Pony.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Turnbull_(autoindustry_executive)

I don't think they had the Pony in the USA - appalling cars - quality comparible to a Marina and biodegradable, but, I'm still trying to figure out if a Pony 5 speed would mate to a 1500. Unfortunately the transmissions are about as rare as 210's though MUCH cheaper if you find one.

Hmm...interesting John-Peter....& Japan grabbed the Sunbeam to do its little Datsun roadster.

They do look pretty good, but I was brought up to believe that one must reach into a real sports car to open the doors.

ha ha - ya the Pony was quite a Jem ! Appalling is a good description ;-) I had one years ago that I used to drive around bush roads, that poor car finally gave up when I put a rock thru the oil pan & I drove it to the garbage dump (with no oil), intentionally T-Boned another wrecked car & put the front of the engine thru the rad  ahhh good times

 So thaat means my '53 TD isn't real? But, my '63 Midget is?

And they grabbed the Austin 7 and A-series engines too.
