Accelerator Pedal Position

The accelerator pedal on my Austin Healey 3000 BJ8 spontaneously changed position so that it is now about 2" higher than the clutch and brake pedals. The linkage still functions normally and the car responds to the throttle as usual, but the pedal is out of alignment. I checked the linkage in the footwell, beneath the car, and in the engine bay and could find nothing out of place.
I would welcome explanations and suggestions as to how to correct this problem.
Thank you.

Roy,
Look at the Moss Motors parts listing, which is like the parts book, to see the different engine control levers that are held in position with bolts, pinching in on the rods.
You might be able to restore the position by anchoring the linkage closest to the pedal, and gently pushing the pedal down to where it used to be.

Thanks, Bob. The conundrum is that all of the linkage connections are tight, so I don't think that the pedal position changed because one of the clamp connectors slipped on a rod. And I don't want to reposition any of the clamps only to discover that the problem is elsewhere and by doing so I've misaligned the entire linkage. Moreover, if one of the clamps were loose, the throttle would not respond, or at least slip, when driving, which it doesn't. The pedal is happily and securely fixed in the new position.

I had the lever clamped to the accelerator pedal rod slip on mine. From the construction of the clamps, it's the most likely to slip. It may have slipped from one location to stick at another.

With that said, the pedal should be 2 1/2" from the floor board when at idle. If it's too high, you risk damage to the carbs when "flooring it".

Thank you. Of course, being a Healey, it would be the most inaccessible bracket. I'll have a look at it.
