A type OD clutch lining thickness

Does anyone (Randall?) know the thickness of the lining of the OD clutch when new and when it is considered no longer useable? I would like some measurements to the rivets. Thanks. Berry

Sorry, no help here. I've seen a spec somewhere, but it was in terms of how far the clutch could move, not lining thickness. I made notes last time I was inside an A-type (had a clutch that was actually too thick!), but there is no telling where they are now.

Ah, found it. TR4 workshop manual gives clutch travel as .080" to .120", plus has the note "allowance for wear 1/8" of direct drive clutch".
I'm not quite sure what that means, but I did confirm that less than .060" or so is a problem :smile:

Thanks Randall. I was a little confused by the spec. too. I posed the same question to John Esposito a few days ago, but haven't received a response. I just bought an extra OD trans quite cheap(by today's standards) but there is only .030" meat left on the clutch. There is a rebuilder in the Portland, OR area that relines the clutches using only bonding, instead of rivets. Anyone had any experience on problem with the procedure? Berry
