Had my first go at putting up the hood on my bugeye. Sheesh. Allowing for the fact it might have shrunk a bit with age, let no man ever say to me how bad the sidescreen TR roofs were to erect. They are a breeze compared to my Sprite.

Would be ok if not for that silly 'hook in the lip of the windscreen frame system. Give me proper Tenax fasteners any day.. Ok rant over.

I put a canvas top on my Red Rat last week.

It hadn't been on a car in at least 15 years, and being canvas, it has really shrunk.

I ended up using ratchet tie-downs to "pull" it forward (hooked the other end of the tie downs to the front bumper). Once it has stretched for a week, I was *just* able to get it connected to the windshield.

I got what seemed to be a NOS AMCO top for my MK2 from another member here.
Being that it was very old and had not apparently been used it was a bit smaller than ideal.
I had time, it was summer.
I first just put it up over my rollbar and let it warm and stretch a little.
Then I put in my frame, it's one with the springs so I put in in with the springs compressed.
I got it stretched over as tight as I could and then let it rest there taut for several days.
Then I started pulling.
I thought I was going to rip it, but eventually I got it on the car.
The thing eventually "grew" itself back to the right size.

Those old tops, if they have no damage and were stored right can be really good. Seems the vinyl they are using now is a lot thinner.
