SHe won't start...went to take my daughter for a fathers day ride and click click click....battery is charged..beside the starter solenoid any relays I should check..



If I didn't love this car....

If connections tight and battery full charged, try taping the starter lightly with hammer while trying to start. Or, if the rear of the starter has a rubber plug or square shaft protruding , take wrench (9/16 or 1/2) and turn starter and try again. If that doesn't work try jumping it. Starter may be stuck on flywheel. You can also put in reverse and try to unjamb starter by rocking car back and forth. Otherwise load test battery and starter,

Well...here's the crap..

rockin did no good

tighten everthing did no good

charge the battery did no good

jumped it with my wife's XK8 started up!!!


Had battery checked they said it was perfect?????


Has started right up 15 times so far...


Am I missing something?

Symptoms listed so-far indicate the starter motor's brushes/commutator to be the issue.

Could well be! I'd bet we've all been caught out with that at some point.

Now it's in the: "If it ain't broke" mode. Wait to see if it reoccurs.

Yep...driving it every day...so far so good....it also allowed my to paint , detail that side of the engine compartment.....


Looking forward to the day I see another E-Type on the road in Columbus..Its been 5 years now....

Reading this forum paid off today

I have about 150 miles on my “new” S2 since I picked it up from the shop. I try to drive it at least 3 times a week and have had no problems until today. When I came out of the post office and turned the key, I got nothing but a weak grunt. I remembered this series of comments and checked the battery connections. One was loose. I was able to squeeze it tighter with a pair of pliers and that got me home, but I replaced them both this afternoon.

I don't remember my own words. I stopped at Lowes this week and when I got back in the truck, it didn't do anything. It did this a couple of years ago and it was the battery. I just happened to have another battery in the bed of the truck so I just changed it out quickly. I stopped by the battery place to do the warranty thing. They checked the battery and it checked good. We put it back in and it cranked right up. Battery connectors didn't look that bad but one was bad enough to stop it. Made me feel dumb.
