MGB-GT 67 BGT Choke Cable Removal Question

I am trying to replace the choke cable in my 67 BGT. I have got the backing nut loosened off all the way but there is some sort of collar on the cable (right where the threaded body ends) that is too big for the nut to pass over. I cannot figure out how to get this collar off. It does not exist on the new Moss sourced cable so that is no help. Space is kinda limited under the dash so does anyone have any advice?

Thanks in advance.

Simon - It sounds to me like the choke knob is turned such that the locking piece is pushing the spring surrounding it up and obstructing the nut. Try turning the knob one way or the other and see if that helps, or pull the inner cable all the way out. If this is on your 67 MGB, removing the radio will give you good access to the back of the cable assembly.
Cheers,

Dave, the inner cable has been removed already - but thanks for the tip about removing the radio.

Simon, I pulled my speedo to access my choke cable when I changed it out a few months back but I was replacing the entire unit and simply cut the old one off.

I have cut mine off and decided to go choke-less for the time being. I am planning on replacing the radio and will re visit the choke at that time. Perhaps with better access I can see how to remove that collar.

Thanks

It's a big nut back there, 5/8" IIRC.

With radio or tach out a Crescent wrench works.

...and a word in yer ear: DISCONNECT th' battery! :smirk:

"...and a word in yer ear: DISCONNECT th' battery!"

That's three words Doc, but very good advice. Not doing so can result in a blinding flash and the imprint of the wrench permanently burned in the palm of one's hand. Worse yet, it will probably screw up a good wiring harness.

Okay, Dave.... My bad. But THREE words.

You can always cheat like the factory tech did, just replace the cable and reuse the same housing, most cables are repalced because they get freyed on the end, so reusing the housiong makes this a 5 minute job.
