TR2/3/3A 60 TR3A serious engine vaccuum issues

I recently was having serious flooding and spark plug fouling issues with my TR. I rebuilt my TR 10 years ago and have been driving it since. I decided it was time to rebuild the SU's. I rebuilt them and hooked them up. TR would not start, it is firing if I spray gas into the firing chamber. I checked the floats, gas line pressure and also the intake manifold for leak. Removed the intake and reinstalled with new gasket. As far as I can see the intake is not leaking. I did a cold compression check, it is 150-154 in all cyls. I had the carbs put on a flow meter at local carb shop and at 17-18 vac pressure, you can see it pulling gas up thru the jet and piston is rising, does not seem to be the carbs. Put palm of hand over carb intake and it is not sucking against my hand. No internal vaccuum pull from engine. Checked static timing, rotor at TDC is pointing to no 1 cyl. This will most likely turn out to be something obvious and stupid, need some help.

Not sure what TR you have, but on the TR2-4a engine, it is very easy to get the intake hung up on the locating pins on the cylinder head, and not having any seal at all.

yep, Agree with Darrell. I had the same issue with my intake hanging. Took the carbs off and repostioned the intake and tapped it on with a rubber mallet to make sure that it was seated properly. Once the carbs were back on, it fired right up.
