5 speed trans, please look & tell me it is the one

I'm talking to this guy about his 1980 Datsun B210 transmission, I asked if it's a "63" or a "60" and he says it's a 60.
What else should I look at?

Can anyone tell from a picture?

It looks to be the correct one. Look at rivergate5speed.com for more info.

Re: 5 speed trans, please look & tell me it is the

I think if you look, there is a "60" cast into the side as well..

Re: 5 speed trans, please look & tell me it is the

ok, he says it is a "60" but he said the number on top of the bell housing looks like it starts "6D" - is he looking in the wrong place?

Re: 5 speed trans, please look & tell me it is the

It looks like the right one. Is the drain plug pointing directly towards the ground? Devin is correct, there should be a "60" cast into the side of the case. Also, The serial number should be stamped on the top of the bellhousing.....it should start with the letter F.

Re: 5 speed trans, please look & tell me it is the

I asked again, but he hasn't replied again yet.
I'm supposed to meet him in 2 hours, but don't want to waste either of our time if it isn't right.

Does the location of the drain plug make that much difference to me since I already have a Datsun 4 speed trans bolted onto my Datsun A15 motor and it's all working in the car? BTW the drain plug is horizontal pointing toward the back on my 4 speed and it works just fine.

Re: 5 speed trans, please look & tell me it is the

He says it's got big raised "60" on the right side.

Re: 5 speed trans, please look & tell me it is the

For you, I guess the drain plug really doesn't matter too much. The key things are the number 60 cast into the right side of the case and the serial number starting with the letter F. That would be the "correct" transmission to use.

Although, since you have the Datsun engine in your car any 5-speed from a 210 should work. The bolt patterns are the same and i believe the gear ratios are the same as well......it's just that the Spridget kit was designed for the 60 transmission. It probably doesn't make any difference for you or me (mine is a 60, FWIW).

Anyway, the 60 on the case is pretty easy to see, so this guy should have no trouble confirming that with you. The numbers are about 3" tall, so again, easy to spot.

Good luck.

Re: 5 speed trans, please look & tell me it is the

Ok, then I'm going to go see it.
The transmission and new clutch kit for $150.
I guess I was the first one to contact the guy, he's even meeting me halfway so I only have to drive 60 miles round trip instead of 120 miles.

Re: 5 speed trans, please look & tell me it is the

I could barely believe my eyes.
That's going to make Frank so happy!

Re: 5 speed trans, please look & tell me it is the

Nice find Rick!
BTW..I have a brand new Borg Warner clutch kit as I was going to do the Morris Service kit, but ended up ordering Rivergate instead. ..but sounds like you don't need it!

Anyway..congrats! Christmas comes early in Snoqualmie...or late depending on how you look at it
