Does anyone remember the after market part number for the TR6 later oil pressure switch? I thought that I had it on the wiring diagram, but I don't. Actually, I think that it fits a Chevy Monza from the 80's as well.

And I don't want to go through the usual Q&A at the parts stores.

Hi, I need an oil pressure switch.

OK, you have the old one?

Yup, right here.

That looks weird.

People say that from time to time.

Year - 1974 - (eyebrows curl)

Make and Model - Triumph (eyes going blank, I'm losing him)

Wait, hold on, we don't sell motorcycle parts here

No, it's a car...really..

Sorry, can't help you. Try XYZ down the street who's even more clueless than me. Later, dude.

I was just looking at one on BPNW ( one of our supporting vendors) a couple of hours ago. I think they used the same one on Spitties and TR7/8's for the anti-run on valve control.

Phil,

I wanted to pick one up locally, rather than wait a week until it gets here from Oregon.

Paul, see if the "Monster List" is still up and posted. I had it linked to the hard drive on my dead computer and haven't gotten around to resurrecting the data off it.

Sounds like you're in the ball park, I vaguely remember Chevy also, Maybe someone like Buckeyes has the listing on it, or perhaps VTR.ORG.

Sorry I can't help you any more, right now.

Paul, GUZZUL wrote this on March 14:

Also, to answer another post about the TRF part number for a 3-prong switch, there are some variations, so you need to check your commission number. The one for my Spit is GPS113.

This switch is plug-compatible with a standard GM switch, as used on 1979 GM models with a 5L engine. Olds Starfire, for example. Standard's number is PS-64. NAPA number is OP6610 (Echlin unit). $10.50 versus TRF's $24.95 and readily available at pretty well all engine parts places.

If you do a Napa search for "oil pressure switch" you will also bring up the links to their OP Switch sockets. Again, these are generally available from parts stores, in the range of $6-10. Makes it easier to get 'em off.

Thanks guys. The last one that I bought was the PS-64 and it worked well. I may try to get a socket to wire in there now that there is room to work.

Oddly, no matter what I did with the NAPA online, I couldn't get a Triumph OP switch. Just belts and other stuff.

Thanks again!

So, I have the NAPA OP6610 O.P.S., but have yet to install it... The 3 prongs are stamped I P S, in this configuration:

On the '74 TR6, there are 3 wires; a plastic plug, a black, and a purple. Can anyone confirm which goes where? TIA!

Ray,

These are single prong according to my local NAPA, which I don't have much faith in. I'm going to stop in CT tomorrow and check it out there.

The three wires connected to the OP switch should be a) black - goes on the "P" terminal, b) a white with brown tracer - goes on the "S" terminal, and c) a white with purple tracer - which goes on the "I" terminal.

The black is ground, the white/brown feeds your oil pressure light, and the white/purple goes to one side of the A/R valve.
