Camera Car:
1963 Triumph TR4: 2200cc, car weight ~2200lbs w/ driver . Fast Lap 1.36.8

Pole car: Lotus Super Seven, 1500cc, 1175lbs per rules w/o driver. Fast lap 1.36.6

The next fastest car was a beautifully prepared and well driven Ford Escort that was 4 seconds per lap slower. Both drivers were really pushing it. Unfortunately, it was pushed a bit too far, but that's racing. Enjoy

Watched the whole clip spellbound. Couldn't believe the Lotus could catch up so fast after being out horsepowered on the staight. I guess he could brake harder. Don't know what his problem was with the "incident", looked like racing to me.

I'm sure the seven has a lot better power to weight so braking and accelerating was his best attributes.

The Lotus is ~900lbs lighter than the Triumph and both have about the same tire contact patch. It certaintly has less horsepower, but again, 900lbs is A LOT of weight. Also, the track is ideal for a Lotus. If you notice later on, the Super Seven can stay with the Triumph in the draft down straight away. He also tracks out less later on; notice he was tracking all the way out and it was costing him as he was driving a farther distance.

Also, the camera car was running a slightly defensive line later on, protecting the inside. If the Lotus was going to pass, he was going to have to do it around the outside.

Super Seven's are the lightest cars in our race group. The Triumph is one of the heaviest, but it also has one of the biggest engines. The Triumph is better on a larger track where it can stretch its legs. What you saw there are two cars that run about the same lap time in two different ways.

It was the last race of the day and the temperature dropped, so most of the spectators went home by then. There are corner workers, but they are behind the barriers.
