TR6 1973 tr6 water pump

On a recent journey when the engine was truly warmed up there was a high pitched screem from somewhere under the bonnet. Still there when the car was at a standstill.
Lifter the bonnet and the sound was difficult to hear clearly but definitely not from the alternator. Would a worn water pump make this sort of noise and if so how difficult to fix, please.

Are you leaking any water? If so then it is probably the water pump. From the noise you describe, sounds more like the alternator. Never heard a water pump with high pitch. A roaring, grinding noise is more like the water pump. Three nuts is all there is to removing the water pump. One or two are a little difficult to remove from under the pulley, otherwise pretty straight forward.

Well that won't tell you if it's the pump or the alt.
Think a screw driver is needed
