I just re-installed my rebuilt starter. I pulled it and took it back to the re-builder and it checked out fine. He did mention that I might not be getting a good ground because I painted the piece that the bolts go thru and mount to the block. I took a fine file and cleaned that part and the part of the block that mates to it. Wiggled that starter and in 2 seconds it lined up and I put it in..Bought a new battery and battery posts, installed them. Hooked everything back up and hit the starter solnoid twice and 2 cranks of the engine..Hit it a 3rd time and nothing from the starter solnoid. Hit the ignition and one clink from the starter. I think the starter is binding on something. Could it be that the gears on the flywheel are worn causing this? If so, how can I test this? What are the steps involved to fix this?
