1960 AH 3000, VIN help ?

I know for most this may be some what repetitive but, I don't have the books that most do and need a bit of help w/o spending a bunch of cash:

Back story, bought a beat up 1960 3000 back in 2006, transferred the registration to my name and promptly put it in storage ( I did it in NH to ease the transition to MA at some point ), long story short the car has now been sold to a large seller of cars and they have found the VIN on the registration to be wrong and there is no VIN plate but there is a body plate, all info I have is as follows:

Old Reg # HBN7L8214 (think this should really be BT7 & this is what we are trying to correct )
Body Tag # 3095BT7, 18079, L ( I think the 3095 is in the correct series of body #'s for 1960 )
No engine #
Has triples on it
Is a 4 seat body
Has a hard top

Specific questions:

Are there any other #'s on the chassis/body that are VIN related ? (ie: would be great if this was listed somewhere on line clearly stated, what I have found to this point is a bit confusing esp. w/ the crazy build structure they had at the time )

Is the only real option to get a Certificate using the body # ?

Does any one have info. that would help show any of these #'s correct ( ie: assuming that correct should be BT rather than BN ), maybe something electronic that I can use as supporting documentation to approach the local Registry to request the letter change ?

Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Pat

Pat,

A few initial observations. A BT7 with triple carbs would make it a MkII 3000 made between May '61 and June '62, not 1960. Also, the body number of 18079 falls in the '61-'62 range also. You can find the Commission number (the serial number you are looking for) stamped on the right hand spring tower, just below the shock absorber (I know that this is true on my BJ8, I think it is there for the earlier 3000's also).

The 8214 Comm number you have puts it in the Mk1 1960 range. Of course, you have the number, but not the plate. Getting a Certificate with the body number is a good step, but it might just show that the car is a bitsa. Check the spring tower. Others will chime in if that number is not stamped on the earlier cars.

Hey Patrick,

I believe the chassis number is stamped by the shock tower only on the BJ8. I think your only option is to obtain a British Heritage search by body # (18079L) here: https://www.heritage-motor-centre.c...certificates/car-traced-with-body-number.html That should get you the chassis number and you can get a new chassis number id plate stamped here: https://www.clarkespares.com/carparts.html Of course there's no guarantee that the real chassis number for the car is the same as the BN7 number that you have a registration certificate for with just a change to "BT7" Lots of games were played with VINS with these cars when they were just used cars and sorting the out can be a pain. Probably not the low-buck option you wanted to hear, but I think it's the only way.

BTW, don't know if I told you that I got to show your dad my Ford conversion up in Maine last fall. He said nice things about it so I was pretty happy. Hope everyone's well.

I once looked for the chassis number on my 1960 BT7 right shock tower and did not find anything. I think it was stamped there only on later cars.
