I believe I have a 1958 BN-4 with a 1959 3000 engine from a BT7. Someone before me may have switched engines. But the VIN number seems screwed up, i think it should have kept the 1958 BN-4 legacy, not switched to a 3000 BT7. The VIN number has been removed from the engine compartment. Here is the VIN number on the registration 3056BT7E12170, registered as 1958. But my research quickly shows that no BT7s were built in 1958. Here is the engine number from a plate on the engine: 29D/RU/H4753. My own research identifies that engine number to be a 2.9 cc. (2 SU carbs). the 2.9cc wasn't built until the BT7s started in mid-1959.
Anyone have any suggestions? also I think the VIN number should have an"H" in front of it to designate BT7. can anyone decode the VIN number I have - other than the obvious ' it seems screwed up'. the other clue that the body is not a BT7 is that it has drum breaks all around.
thanks for any help you may have.
