1500 cc MG Midget Radiator in a Bugeye???

I've often heard of people installing a cross-flow radiator in a Bugeye with claims (somewhat contested) that it offers improved cooling. However, it's always been (to my knowledge) a cross-flow radiator from a 1275 cc Midget. I just saw these photos of a cross-flow radiator from a 1500 cc Midget on eBay. What's intriguing to me is the apparent additional width that extends beyond the width of the shroud. Has anyone ever tried to install one of these in a Bugeye, and if so, was there any significant improvement in cooling?

I had issues with the cross flow in my '68 Sprite with a BE Bonnet and finding clearance. Gerard IIRC has talked in the past about using a radiator from an Audi 5000 but have never seen pics. Maybe he'll comment on fit and cooling.

Nope, wasn't me.

Frank [Spritenut] liked using a radiator out of a Geo metro. They cooled very well but you have to get the right one. I believe if I remember correctly that they are different from standard to auto trans. I am running a 1500 radiator in my Datsun engined midget. The offset for early cars is on the wrong side so I flipped it over to offset to the driver's side. Cut holes through the shield for air flow to the offset. Never have a cooling problem with the car even in 100+ temp's. I would guess that it might not clear the BE bonnet though.

Kurt.

There are triple row grow metro radiators out there that come in a 12 x 12" format. On SpriteSpot.com under cooling forum pics by Frank of Geo Metro radiator in a Sprite. One type is talker than tge other and will not fit. prices relatively cheap.

Thanks, everyone. It was more out of curiosity than because I wanted to replace. I had just never seen that particular radiator before and it made me wonder.
