BN4 soft top instal

I am installing a new soft top on my car now i have to sew the gray webbing to the top, At the back bow nearest the rear window there are two strips of vinyl about 2to 3 inches wide is this where I sew webbing to and if i do. do i sew to both pieces or do they wrap around the the bow and does the webbing go over or under that bow

Re: BN4 soft top instal

Wally,

Please see the attached photo from the owners manual. This is for the early BN4 up to April 1958. Im assuming thats what yours is.

The tape is attached to the bows by 2 screws at each attachment point. The screws pass through a small kind of plastic cyinder that is wrapped around the bar.(It does not go all the way around on mine)

The tape begins at the rear bow and is not attached at all to the front bow as can be seen in the photo. It ends by being attached to the front wooden bow. There are no pieces of vinyl involved and the tapes do not attach anywhere to the actual vinyl hood itself.

You can see the tapes are attached to the top of the bows so they are flush with tthe vinyl top when erected.

Hope this helps..these things were quite an amazing contraption and it takes a trained scout troup about 45 minutes to erect one on a good day.

Derek
My car is a 59 and the frame is removable. From what i understand is that the frame whith curved legs goes in the same holes as the hard top and that the webbing attaches to the frame. Later in 59 they switched to a strait leg that went in the holes for the tonneau and the webbing attaches to the top.

Wally

The frames on the earlier cars were permanantly attached to the car and folded flat before being pushed further towards the staorage area by means of a sliding mechanism.

Your top is exactly like the 3000s. I suggest you repost and ask for help from the 3000 guys. There should be more responses as they are more common.
