Removing the Swivel Pin of BN6

Gents,

with help of this forum I was able to remove the coil spring of my BN6. Now I want to get access to the swivel pin, concretely to the swivel pin oil nipple. Currently I am not able to put any grease there.

My idea is to loose the swivel pin only at the top wishbone arms and not to disassemble the swivel pin at the lower wishbone arms. By this I think I can get access to the swivel pin oil nipple without disassembling the more complex lower mechanism. For this I already disconnected the back plate from the brake pipes and removed the coil spring.

Is there a procedure just to remove the swivel pin from the upper wishbone arms to get access to the swivel pin oil nipple?

Note that my technical terms are taken from Fig. L.3 of the workshop manual.

You should be able to rotate the nipple enough to get a grease gun on it without disassembling anything. If you do so and grease is coming out the sides of the nipple, maybe you can put a washer under it and tighten it such that it points toward the front or rear and you can get a gun on it.

Steve, I tried a lot to get great into the nipple. But without success. I removed the nipple to check if it is clear. I was able to put grease through it when disassembled. But I was not able to get any great through the nipple once it is attached to the swivel pin. Thus my idea is that bush (see item no 63 in https://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=28887) is mounted in a wrong fashion. So that the great cannot leave the nipple.

Gents, in the meanwhile I detached the swifel from the upper wishbone arms (by removing teh fulcrom pin) and detachedthe upper nut of the swivel pin. But I am not able to remove the trunnion (suspension link). Is there a trick? Volker

Volker, I'm pretty sure that you have to take the upper fulcrum bushing out first to remove the fulcrum from the swivel pin. I posted that in your previous thread with the attached page in the manual.

Sometimes grease passages can become blocked with hardened grease or dirt. A tool called a Grease Joint Rejuvenator, made by Innovative Products, might help clear the passage and allow the fitting to take grease. It forces penetrating oil into the grease passages. If that works, one then can grease the fitting.
