    Tyres for Mini Cooper

Any opinions on the best brand of tyres for Mini Cooper? Is it worth buying second-hand ones?

I don't like second hand tires unless you can read the date code. I just replaced tires on my AH after 6.5 years. Sidewall blowout ruined one of them. They say to replace every 7 years so I bought a new set. They ride much better and I don't worry about the sidewalls now. You dont know if the used tires were in a wreck or not.
My suggestion: All the suppliers for mini tires have a sale each year and if you can time your buy, you can get about 15% off.

Watch for dates as it is now a known fact that the tires rot from the inside too. You cannot see it so beware. Buy used tires for a spare and treat them like a space saver. Slow speeds few miles. You see a lot of tires being sold used, just make sure of dates. 5-7 years max like Jerry suggested.

You did not mention what size tires you are in need of. There are make/models of tires that are considered "best" in 10" and 12" sizes and then there is also the issue of width. Let us know what size you are looking for.

How about 10"? I just bought a nice Riley Elf driver with 9 year old tires (145/80/10). The previous owner bought tires at Tire Rack, but they don't have this size in stock (only MiniMania$$). Any suggestions?

Sorry, no recommendations. I think the only 10" tires I have seen on Tire Rack are the wider 165/70/10 Yokahama A008s. On MM I have seen threads where people discuss the Falkens and Camacs for the size you were interested in.

With my first Mini (1962), I used the Yokohama A008s and loved them!

It sounds like the 165/70/10 will fit, and I can get them local for not too much.
    Thanks,
